Pimp My Lyrics: “Girl Behind the Bar” Traditional Folk Song

The old songs are so darn good at death and unjustified hanging!  Be warned you bar-palyers.  You take a GBTB home: 1) She may get stabbed as you kiss her by old BF, 2)  You may get hanged for her death!!!  Just sayin’

The smell of drink was in the air
I threw my money on the counter
This pretty maid was standing there Continue reading

“Girls Behind the Bar” Celebration Project: Mental Health Benefits – Gar-on-teed!!

Everyone has been in such a scared, fearful funk for the last 4-5 years.  Worried about money, jobs, the end of the world, global warming, flesh-eating bacteria, gas prices, etc….heck…what isn’t there to wurry about!?

This project will chase away those catastrophic thinking bluez and inject you with a fun and optimism antidote for the trubblez!!  Also, this is not gonna be a edgy, cynical, exploitative project.  Lots of other folks can do thoze.

Sweet lord!!  We live in the richest country in the world and history of the world, dude!!  Whatz to be scared of?..geez!…join our ‘lil group and….

“C’mon now, make them proud, they’re our honky-tonk superstars.
Raise your glass and yell real loud, for the girls behind the bar!!”

We want a project where the Mom’s, Dad’s and bros and sisters of the GBTB can proudly share.   Emphasis on fun — not the old fashioned and tired “expose”/voyeur stuff.  Ho hum…..

We want to humanize the women — they don’t need more dehumanizing.  They are bargirls not just babes.  Rite!?  Each has a story and all stories are interesting.

We guarantee a mood elevation.  That’s a promise you can take — to your local bar!

Community Funding of “Girls Behind the Bar” Celebration Project – Join Us!! Right NOW!! lol

We are going to put our project up on Kickstarter as a first effort.  We REALLY want to make this a community building and funded project.  However, if the Kickstarter approach doesn’t work we will not give up and keep trying other avenues.   Suggestions welcome.

It is just a lot more fun and productive to create a community for a project.  Don’t you think?  What the heck do you think, anyway? (BTW,  please do NOT send picture of the meal you just finished.  It ain’t special!  lol)

Anywho, here are some answers to questions from about funding from another great film project on a woman topic — link — edited for our project.

“Girls Behind the Bar” Celebration Project – Documentary, Song Promotion

After starting to play the GBTB song, folks liked it a lot, the place I played it danced and grooved with it.  Some knowledgeable folks suggested selling the song.

So I thought – “Maybe we could do more?”  Maybe we could create a project and sophisticated and kool campaign to honor, celebrate these women.  And y the heck NOT!?

So a little team of us are putting together a crowdfunding project.  We are going to start with Kickstarter.com.  Here is a draft of our idea.  Feel free to add your own ideas, comment suggestions.  Lemme know if you want to help or contribute.

A mega-fun documentary/original music project to honor and celebrate those women, that make everyone’s life a bit easier.

Girls Behind the Bar” Documentary, Original Songs and Undiscovered Bargirl Artists

25 Words of Less: Create a full media project to honor and celebrate the “Girls Behind the Bar.”

Mission: Let’s have some fun! How about mega-fun!?  A combo documentary and original music project based on the theme of my original song “Girls Behind the Bar.” To honor and celebrate those women, that make everyone’s life a bit easier, more pleasant and fun by serving all of us in the watering holes, hotels, clubs, honky-tonks and neighborhood bars as the “Girls Behind the Bar.” (GBTB). It all started with a song….”Girls Behind the Bar”

“Well the boss was in a mood today and told me to leave early
So I take my truck to the local joint where the girls yell “Hey there honey!’
High five the girls behind the bar and end up spending all my money

So c’mon now, make them proud they’re our honkey-tonk superstars
And raise you glas and yell real loud for the — girls behind the bar!!”

I am a singer-songwriter in Chicago.  Most of the time I play in bars.  Usually the cutest, most pleasant and most sober people in the bar are the “girls behind the bar.” (GBTB)  They are usually nicest to me and the other players.   I assume most other folks in the bar have the same experience.

But most time the GBTB aren’t respected, complimented, tipped or even noticed.  But without them the waterhles we all go to would be dull, boring, unattractive places.

As honor and acknowledge their contributions to all our lives, I wrote the song.  Here is a video of a performance.  More to come.
